Kate Hanlon’s lifelong involvement with printmaking includes a 25-year engagement with the uniquely American medium of white line woodcut. This method, developed in Provincetown, MA in the early 1900s, allows multicolored images to be made from a single block of wood, with just a few simple tools. Kate’s images, a synthesis of observation and invention, reflect scenes from her life on the North Shore. A member of the Boston Printmakers and the Society of American Graphic Artists, Kate’s woodcuts may be found in many public and private collections.
